Joe Patti published an article on 10/6/14 that examines the recent pop-up protest that transpired during a St. Louis Symphony Orchestra (SLSO) that asked the very same questions running through my head after coming across the news; specifically, “why did they choose to do this at a SLSO concert?

After reading quotes from both sides I think the choice to protest at the SLSO exposes some unfortunate stereotypes regarding symphony concerts and audiences. In the end, music goes beyond politics and operates on a different plane. Here are a few more thoughts:
Perhaps the protesters thought this audience would be sympathetic to their need…
One guess is that the St. Louis NPR station airs Saturday night SLSO concerts, so that the protesters would be heard live on the radio.
